子供達を連れて代官山のヒルサイドテラスで開催されている【grandfather's letters】という絵画展に行きました。
何十年も前にイギリス人のじーじが遠く離れて住む孫に当てた何千通ものイラスト入りの手紙が展示されています。
じーじは大変に絵が上手で何種類ものキャラクターを登場させ、孫にルールやマナーを絵で楽しませながら教えたようです。孫はさぞかし、じーじの絵を心待ちにしていたことでしょう。
戦争中だったので、残念ながらじーじと孫は最後は会えずに亡くなったそうです。
イラストも可愛く、手紙の内容も何気ない文章なのに、その当時の背景を想うと胸が熱く切なくなります。
近年はIT化が進み、メールが手紙代わり。絵文字だってつけられるし、写メしたり何でも添付できるから本当に便利になりました。
手紙がメールと違うのは〈リアリティさ〉だと思います。じーじがどんなに孫のことをどんなに愛していたか、熱いメッセージが絵や文字から伝わってきました。
展示会場を出ると、下の階にクレヨンと色鉛筆が置いてありました。

というものでした。
地震で親や兄弟を亡くした子供達宛てです。
キョンさんは早速クレヨンを手にとり、絵を書き始めました。
大きな象がいて、女の子がいて、２人の間には土の上で小さな花が笑っています。
言葉は通じなくても、絵を見れば通じ合えるかもしれません。
これを見た子がどんな思いで、見てくれるか楽しみです。
地球上に住む人々はみんな家族だと思って欲しいという願いです。
